Radhakrishnan noted that this is a % convocation address by the Vice-Chancellor that is still observed at % the Banaras Hindu University. % (At one time he was its President, and I don't know if in his modesty % he did not say whether he introduced the practice.) % This could be one of our pages. An audio clip with the recitation of the % passage in vedic chanting would be even more impressive. % I think Chinmaya and Ramakrishna Missions have this Upanishad on cassette. % % Wherever I have been asked to say a few words at a graduation party, % I have used this to keep my speech short !! % % Transliterated by : Sunder Hattangadi % Proofread by : Sunder Hattangadi % Latest update : Jan 29, 1998 % Send corrections to : sunderh@hotmail.com % % Special instructions : ilh.hdr, ijag.inc, itrans.sty, multicol.sty, % Transliteration scheme : ITRANS 5.1 % Site access : ftp://jaguar.cs.utah.edu/private/sanskrit/index.html %--------------------------------------------------------------------------- % The text is to be used for personal studies and research only. % Any use for commercial purpose is prohibited as a "gentleman's" agreement. %@@1 % % Please ignore the following commands upto #indian and others with \ mark, % which are needed for devanaagarii output and formatting. %--------------------------------------------------------------------------- \begin{document} #indian ## \centerline{##\hugedvng shaasana ## \LARGE Discipline} \centerline{##\LARGEdvng taittiriiya upaniShad. ## \Large Taittiriya Upanishad.} \medskip\hrule %--------------------------------------------------------------------------- %Date: Mon, 24 Feb 1997 7:39:56 -0500 %%%%% %From Sunderji on Jan 9, 1998 %%%% \begin{tabbing} \hskip 3.8in \= \kill \medskip ## vedamanuuchyaachaaryo.antevaasinamanushaasti . ## \> Having taught the Veda, the Teacher instructs the Pupil. \\ ## ## \> \\ ## satyaM vada . ## \> Speak the Truth. \\ ## dharmaM chara . ## \> Practise Virtue. \\ ## svaadhyaayaanmaa pramadaH . ## \> Do not neglect your daily Study. \\ ## aachaaryaaya priyaM dhanamaahR^itya ## \> Offer to the Teacher whatever pleases him, \\ ## prajaatantuM maa vyavachchhetsiiH . ## \> Do not cut off the line of progeny. \\ ## satyaanna pramaditavyam.h . ## \> Do not neglect Truth. \\ ## dharmaanna pramaditavyam.h . ## \> Do not neglect Virtue. \\ ## kushalaanna pramaditavyam.h . ## \> Do not neglect Welfare. \\ ## bhuutyai na pramaditavyam.h . ## \> Do not neglect Prosperity. \\ ## svaadhyaayapravachanaabhyaaM na pramaditavyam.h .. 1.. ## \> Do not neglect Study and Teaching.
